Once-a-Month Maintenance Items

For starters, there are aspects of your Ram 1500 that require regular inspections. Most of these are so simple that you can perform them on your own if you'd like. If you're planning on taking your 1500 on an extended road trip, it's a good idea to take care of them before you leave. These are as follows:

  • Test the interior as well as exterior lights and turn signals to make sure everything is working properly.
  • See to it that your windshield washer fluid is where it needs to be. Doing this is vital to having maximum visibility.
  • Check the engine oil level. While you're doing that, take a look at the oil itself. Healthy oil shouldn't have any dirt in it and should have a honey or amber color to it. You should take your truck to a mechanic if the oil is too dark.
  • It's a good idea to examine the coolant level as well as that of the brake fluid.
  • Look over the condition of your tires. If they're exhibiting signs of excessive or uneven wear, this could be a sign that it's time to have them rotated. In addition to this, check the air pressure for each tire and refill when necessary.

Maintenance to Accompany Your Oil Changes

Because the next set of service items doesn't have to be addressed as often, it's a good idea to either do them yourself or have them performed at our service center at the same time that you have your oil changed. This should be happening every 3,500 to 10,000 miles or when the oil change indicator turns on. Here are the tasks that should be completed:

  • Brake shoes, rotors, pads, drums, and hoses should be checked.
  • The exhaust system needs to be inspected.
  • Rotate the tires.
  • Check the battery to make sure there is no sign of leaking or corroding and that the terminals are nice and tight.
  • The cooling system, engine air filter, and exhaust system should all be inspected.

Other Maintenance Tasks

The remainder of your Ram 1500's maintenance should be taken care of in accordance with specific mile markers as demonstrated below:

Every 20,000 miles. At this time, the front suspension, tie rod ends, brake linings, and cabin air filter should all be inspected and replaced as needed.

Every 30,000 miles. At the 30,000-mile mark, replace the engine air filter, inspect the transfer case fluid, and check the CV and Universal joints.
