Oil Changes Services

How Many Types of Oil Change Services are There?

Every car, truck, SUV, crossover, or hybrid needs to have regular oil changes suitable for that vehicle's needs. Depending on the performance specifications, the manufacturer will recommend either conventional, semi-synthetic, fully synthetic, or a diesel oil change. Every oil change is basically the same, consisting of the flushing of the existing oil, replacement with clean oil, and the installation of a new oil filter. Flushing and replacing the oil removes built-up impurities, and a new filter helps keep additional impurities from entering the system. But what are the differences between the different types of oil changes?

The Different Oil Types

Conventional Oil Change - A conventional oil change uses 100% petroleum-based motor oil and should be done about every 3000 miles or every three months. Most vehicles on the road will take this type of oil change.
Semi-Synthetic Oil Change - A semi-synthetic oil change uses oil that is 50% synthetic and 50% petroleum-based. Cars that take this type of oil change should receive the service every 5000 miles or every five month.
Full Synthetic Oil Change - A full synthetic oil change is for high-performance vehicles and should be done about every 7000 miles or every seven months
Diesel Oil Change - Diesel engines tend to go longer than conventional engines. Most mechanics agree that at least a partial synthetic oil type should be used in most diesel vehicles. Diesel oil changes will tend to cost about $10 more than other types since most diesel manufacturers call for a semi-synthetic or full synthetic oil.

Oil Changes: Critical Vehicle Maintenance

No matter what kind of oil change your vehicle takes, regular oil changes are critical for the long term health of your engine. Regularly scheduled oil changes are the best way to make your car or truck lasts as long or longer than the manufacturer intended.
